Trinity Hospital Clock & Crest Hospitale Sanctae et Individvae Trinitatis Grenwici Sanctae Individvae Trinitatis Sit Gloria Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton, was Keeper of Greenwich Park during the reign of King James I. In 1613 he founded this establishment for poor men at Greenwich, Trinity Hospital, also called Norfolk College because he was born there, but later also known as Greenwich Hospital (not to be confused with the Royal Naval Hospital at Greenwich which was also sometimes called Greenwich Hospital). It had accommodation for 20 men and a warden, the men all to be widowers, 12 from Greenwich and eight from Norfolk.(1) It was for 'poor indigent men ... decayed by casual means and not by their own dissolute lives'. The almshouse was rebuilt in 1812 in Gothic style with clock tower and battlements and a stuccoed facade.(2) The almshouses are now administered by the Mercers' Company. Trinity Lake Located at the foothills of the Trinity Alps, Trinity Lake or Clair Engle Lake was created by the Trinity Dam! With over 100 miles of coastline, it is one of the largest lakes in the state, and provides opportunity for all sorts of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming! During the wetter years, the lake is completely full, but during dry months with little rain, the water level tends to be lower, exposing the brown shore!
